How to Crop an Image Without Stretching It

Choose a visual crop or exact pixel region, preserve the source proportions, and export the selected area as PNG, JPG, or WebP directly in your browser.

Cropping changes composition by selecting a rectangular region; it does not stretch the selected pixels. Pixores processes the crop locally in the browser and lets you drag visually or enter exact width, height, X, and Y values.

Choose a free crop or a common aspect ratio, then export PNG, JPG, or WebP. The crop is drawn from the original-resolution image rather than from the smaller screen preview.

What we verified for this tool

This record describes a reproducible product check, not a stock claim about image quality.

Reference scenario
Original-resolution photo cropped to a fixed social aspect ratio
Review method
Set the crop visually, confirm its X, Y, width, and height fields, and verify the downloaded dimensions.
Observed behavior
The export uses pixels from the original image rather than scaling the smaller on-screen preview.
Known boundary
A very small selection contains too few pixels for a large output even though no stretching occurs.

How to use this tool

  1. Select the original-resolution image.
  2. Choose the destination's aspect ratio before fine positioning.
  3. Move and resize the crop around the essential subject.
  4. Check exact pixel values when a platform has fixed requirements.
  5. Download and confirm the exported dimensions.

When it is a good fit

  • Social-media aspect ratios
  • Removing distracting edges
  • Preparing a thumbnail subject
  • Creating exact pixel dimensions without distortion

Limitations to check

  • Cropping permanently removes pixels from the derivative.
  • Important text and faces need safe space from edges.
  • A very small crop may not have enough resolution for enlargement.

File handling and privacy

The crop is rendered on your device; the selected image is not uploaded to a Pixores server for this operation.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce quality?

The selected pixels are exported at their source resolution, but a small crop contains fewer total pixels and may be insufficient for a large display.

How is cropping different from resizing?

Cropping removes outer areas; resizing changes the dimensions of the remaining image.

Which format should I export?

Use PNG for transparency or sharp graphics, and JPG or WebP for reviewed photographic delivery copies.
